I am seeing today for the first time the impact of Google+ on the natural results of the google SERP.

Here, two people in one of my Google+ circle have recommended the Skins.net website. Their names is displayed under the result for the site.

This could be a real game changer for Google. In terms of algorithm, we are probably not very far to re-ordering results based on the total number of +1s.

It will also lead to a real headache for SEO practicioners..

When I first heard Warpaint, a few months back on 6Music, I instantly took a liking to their first single release, Undertow. Yet again, I have a bit of a history with liking Shoe Gazing music, especially from pop/indie bands with lead female singers from LA (Mazzystar’s Hope Sandoval being a long time favourite).

Not that I am qualifying Warpaint of any musical genre: their music shows many influences.

I have had long enough to get acquainted with their second studio album, The fool, but did not think that they could provide, live, the same performance; especially after their rather disappointing “Later with Jools Holland” tv show appearance.

It would be easy to dismiss them as a one-trick pony girl band on first sight. Especially as they are undeniably quite charming.

After 2 numbers live though, tonight at the Leadmill, it was clear that they are accomplished musicians, at the top of their games. The guitars are reminiscent of early Pink Floyd and, musically, they take their influence from indie classics such as The Cure or Bjork with a touch of surfy ‘Beach Boy’ sound. ’Composure’ was complex and intense, “Majesty”, touching and romantic. The encore, ‘Baby’, acoustically performed by Emily Kokal was hyptonic and led to a long 10 min jammy version of ‘Beetles’ performed by the quartet, with a repetitive drum beat on which the guitars built up.

To top it up, the obvious band chemistry on stage made it a winner.

A truly talented band! With hopefully much more music to come from them.

Enable ‘X-Ray Folders’ in QuickLook

The QuickLook feature of Finder is great, but if you use it on a folder, you won’t see anything except a folder icon. Using this hidden setting, you’ll be able to see the contents of the folder when you use QuickLook.

defaults write com.apple.finder QLEnableXRayFolders 1 && killall Finder

To turn off, replace the ’1′ with a ’0′.
